Baby Boom - III

Morning all.

Well here is the last baby card (for at least a little bit). One of the girls on my netball team is in the family way and it was her baby shower a couple of weekends ago. I was asked to make the card on behalf of the team. We all chipped in with money and got her a gift card for a super baby store!

Once again, I reverted to my tried and tested baby pram. The mum and dad to be do not know the sex of bubba yet, so I kept the tones gender neutral. This is what I came up with this time around.....

Yes...you are not seeing things....I did a square card!!!! It is also the closest to a "white on white" card i have ever attempted. I busted out my new Nestabilities Heart Squares. Once I had settled on this the whole card fell into place really well. The background paper is the same on used on my daughter's birthday card WAY back here. Sadly I do not know the name of it and as you can see by the last time I used it, I have been holding onto it for quite a while!! I used it because it used a lot of gender neutral colour. It also has a little gloss in the centre.

The scroll that the sentiment is one was the one I cut down for the handle of the pram, so I guess the shape follows through the card as well. A couple of pearls and I was done.

Thanks for popping by and enduring all these baby cards. I promise there is something VERY different for me coming up soon. The request took me right out of my comfort zone in a BIG way.

Baby Boom - II

Morning all.

Yes, another doctor in the practice where I work (there are 7 GP's in all of varying ages!) had a double blessing in her life recently. She became a Grandmother twice withing 6 weeks, both grandsons. I guess she opened her Grandmother account with a bang!! To celebrate the occasion, I made a card for both her and her husband to congratulate them on their grandchildren. I based it around the pram in the last post.

The pram is the same size as the card in the previous post, but this time Bashful Blue instead of Whisper White.

The sky is sponged using the same technique  as I used in the Puff the Magic Dragon and Angry Birds cards here and here. You will also find the link for it there.

I think the sentiment fitted the card perfectly. The new Grandmother LOVED it too, so I was also very happy!!

Thanks for popping by. Still more baby fun coming!

Baby Boom - I

Morning all.

Welcome to the beginning of November. I cannot believe how quickly this year is getting away form me!! Does anyone else out there feel the same??

Sometimes being a nurse has its advantages. One of which is kinda being able to pick up when someone may be in the family way. One of the doctors in the practice where I work spiked my curiosity in a big way, but I kept my suspicions to myself for some weeks. More weeks passed, nothing was said, so I approached the Practice Manager and shared my suspicions.....and BINGO!!! (but I was to keep a v v tight lipped secret...no prob!) When the proverbial cat WAS out of the bag, I could not let the occasion go by without a card for the occasion.

I have had a gender neutral card bouncing around my brain for a bit and this was the final result...not exactly what I had in mind...but I was happy all the same.

The pram is basically a Nestabilities circle with a segment cut out and then dry embossed. Add a couple of hearts and the hook off a scroll from another Nestabilities tag (genius find even if I do say so myself) and the pram was complete!

All the "lattice" dry embossing was done using a little magic tape to hold all the squares together and also numbering them (in case they came apart etc....yes I am VERY OCD!!)

The banner was raised on dimensionals and the end flags tucked under just a bit to hang over the edge of the card, but still safely fit in the envelope. Can you tell I REALLY like dry embossing??

Thanks for popping by. I have more baby cards to share, both baby shower and birth - soon. I love to read your thoughts and impressions, so thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.

I also wish to thank ALL those who pop by regularly and not so regularly for taking my blog hits to over 20,300!!! I have only been blogging since January 2010, so I am over the moon with this result. From the bottom of my heart.....MWAH ooxx.

Cherries - II

Morning all!

Firstly, thanks to all those commenters on the last post that pointed out all the PINK I have been using of late!!! Yes...it has been prolific, however, when it comes to little and incredibly girly girls....it is an obvious choice!! Please keep that in mind when viewing today's post and photos!!!

Miss 8 enjoyed a sleep over (her 1st) at a friend's house not so long ago, She was turning 9 and Miss 8 wanted one of the cherry cards to give her. We had her gift already (bling from Diva) so all I needed was the packaging. Miss 8 also wanted to give her a special bookmark. This is the booty from Diva....

I had fun with the last pillow boxes I did, so I thought I'd have another crack...and this is what I came up with....

So cute all done up together.

The bookmark was a variation on one I had done for my son (that I don't believe I have posted yet...oops!!) It uses the 2 Tags Die.

Finally, since the card did not have the birthday girl's age on it, I fancied up the inside a bit. Miss 8 chose this card....

and then on the inside......

This is it all together.........

Not to be outdone, Miss 8 also wanted to make her own special card for the birthday girl. As she was turning 9, it was based around 9 items on the card. Miss 8 designed it all.... and I was so very touched by the words she wrote inside.....

Thanks for popping by and enduring all the photos. Will be back with some fun bloke things very soon.

Cherries - I

Morning all.

Question - Have you ever been strolling through your local crafting paradise and stumbled across something that inspired you then and there?? That is how today's cards started. My local craft haunt is Alice in Paperland. I am always there for MUCH longer than I plan and Alice is such a sweetheart. I was there recently with one of my netball gals helping her sort and suss some things for her daughter (Miss 10). Whilst there, I found the SWEETEST cherry paper by Doodlebug. This is it close up.....

I immediately thought of the wee cherry stamp I had at home and the mojo flowed from there. I made 3 cards, picking up the colours from the paper. These are the cards....

With a red base....

..a pink base....

And one in landscape.......

As you can see, I need to work a bit on my "bannering"!! However, I was very happy with the way that they turned out. I think they are perfect for a little girl's birthday. As my next post will show....turns out, I was right!! En masse, they look pretty good...

Thanks for popping by again. I love to read your comments. Remember, if you have any questions about what I have made, please feel free to drop me a line. My e mail address is under my profile.

More Owls!!!

Morning all.

One thing you may have noticed of late is that I am having A LOT of fun co-ordinating cards and gift boxes. Basically...if it can be made and hold anything....I'll have a crack at it!! This project also has a bi-line in that ALWAYS read the description when you are getting stuff on eBay!!! I do like the Pillow Box....and purchased one on eBay. When it arrived.....it was actually a thin metal die....NOT the thicker Sizzix-like one I was expecting....but undeterred...I went ahead.

Recently a niece (another one!!) had a birthday. I saw this GORJUS wee ensemble done by Lynn Putt here. I figured the owl would fit the goodies I had purchased from Diva. This is what I came up with...

I HAD to use this paper as it had owls ALL OVER IT. I used the colours from the DSP to use as the colour palate. I guess you could say brights and I are getting better acquainted....LOL!!

This is the card closer up (click on the pics if you wish to make them larger)...

...and here is the close up of the owl.....

I am kinda chuffed with the way it turned out and I think I may be making a couple more of them as time goes by. Thanks Lynn so very much for the inspiration.

Thanks for popping by.

Father's Day Card with the LOT!!!!

Morning all.

Thought I'd get in with these cards close to time as opposed to my usual sooooooooooo v v much after the occasion kind of thing!!!

The Sunday just gone (2nd Sept) we celebrated Father's Day in Australia. I am very lucky to still have 3 "Dads" in my life, them being my DH, my Dad and my FIL. Most women know that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach! With this in mind....and also thanks to the amazing punch art inspiration of Kelly Matthews - Indiana Inker (here), this is what the 3 dads in my life received as cards.....
 DH

My Dad

and my FIL

Aren't they a hoot???? Kelly used the Lg Oval Punch for her burgers....but I super sized mine and used the wide oval punch instead. The "seeds on the bun" are done by stamping off one of the "Itty Bitty Background" stamps. Here are the burgers and chips close up.....

DH did have a wee dummy spit because I put VEGETABLES with his burger (wink!!) All the edges are sponged in the same colour to give them that bit of oomph!

So...what did I give my vege-phobic DH for the occasion....a very VERY tongue-in-cheek gift (so unlike me!!).......

Here are the 3 cards together en masse......

Thanks so much Kelly for the inspiration for these cards. They were a hit to say the least. I made these cards with one of my netball gals and her Miss 10 daughter the day before Father's Day. Seriously....I have never seen 2 gals have so much fun with a crimper!!! Thanks to Trish and Miss Renee for a fun and fantastic afternoon!!! From all accounts the men in their lives that got their cards loved them too.

Thanks for popping by and enduring a long post. Have sooooooooo much more to share it isn't funny. Please feel free to leave a comment. I love hearing your thoughts and impressions.

Seaworthy Male - II

Morning all.

It FINALLY feels as tho I am getting a blogging rhythm on. Granted I am still grossly behind on UTD projects to show you, but now at the end of August, I have nearly completed all the May things I created...woo hoo!!!! Very soon a new SU catty or 2 will be out and I have a wish list 2 miles long already...discipline, hard work and a larger bank balance are definitely needed...LOL!!!

Today's card is another masculine one with "The Open Sea". It was inspired by this one found on SCS. I was drawn to all the clean space and how circles were used instead of rectangles. I am also a sucker for dry embossing!! I made 2 versions to bolster my stash. These are they.....

I can hear the "but they look identical" quips.... and yes...the difference is very subtle. Look closely at the concentric circles....

In the 2nd picture, the outer circle is embossed in line with the ribbon, then lined up with the embossing below. It just distressed it a little more I think. Don't you think the dry embossing looks like the deck of an old ship???

Here are the 2 cards side by side.....

I can see this set getting used over and over as male cards are always such a challenge!!

Thanks for popping by. Coming up soon....an unusual birthday card.

Stuff used:
CS: (SU) Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, Cherry Cobbler

Stamps: (SU) The Open Sea, Teeny Tiny Sentiments

Co-ordinated Tulip Fun

Morning all.
Finally (I hear you laud), she has something crafty to show!!!

This is the 2nd of the tulip cards I made for a secretary that I use to work with. We have remained good friends even though I left my old work over 2 1/2 years ago. I went with a favourite colour combo of purples and green.

Here is the card.....

Now....what to give with it.....hmmmmmmmmmmm?? Ever find that you have a gift....and nothing to go with it....well I found a solution!!! I made her a wee note card holder from 2 of the Scallop Envelope dies joined together. What I finally made was a mildly amended version of this. The end result was this..... (front and back)

And side......

It held comfortably 4 note cards that were 3 x 3 inches and 4 envelopes. These were the cards inside. I also stamped the envelopes so they matched.

....and of course the card and gift ready to go......

Needless to say....she loved them. Purely by co-incidence, she had a gift at home that she had forgotten a card for...but now does!!!

Thanks for dropping by. I will try and list all the bits used, but there was a lot. If you have any questions....please ask and I will answer.
