Crafter's Retreat 2011 #1

Hi there.

I guess I shoud get off my keester and show you what I made at craft camp....given that it WAS 2 weekends ago!!! Once again, it was at the idyllic Collaroy, where we have been all the previous times. One of the BEST things about camp was that my bestie came out all the way from Singapore...JUST for camp!!! We had some "us" time...and even better...US CREATIVE time. Could not have asked for more.

This year I went with specific goals in mind...with a glut of birthdays and things coming up, I wanted to get ahead (or at least dare to dream anyhow). I also had some new toys to play with and I wanted to give them a good going over.

First task was to fill some orders I had been give. One of the doctors at work was about to become an Uncle for the first time, but he did not know the sex of the baby, so he wanted one of each. He also wanted traditional colours...ie pink and blue. my "go to" baby set is Wild About You. I also had purchased some time back some beautiful Christina Re double sided A4 paper. With all these factors in mind, here is the boy card....

And the girl card.....



I kept the design fairly basic as I wanted the paper to be the centre of attention. I just made a simple matt...

...and because I (still) can't bear to do 2 identical cards....slightly changed the sentiment up a little...

Even side by side I think they looked pretty speccy together....

Isn't the paper just too cute?? The doc was really happy with them too. Turns out the timing was perfect. I gave them to him at work on the Tuesday and his new NIECE was born on the Wednesday....and he was all organised. Gotta love that. You still can't wipe the smile off his face.

Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls....

Now apart fm the title of a great 80's song by TLC, it is also a style of card that you can find here.

I decided that since I have had it in my "Gunna" file for EVER, it was time to give it a go. Master Thomas was turning 5 and he loves animals. I went for bright, animals and fun. Here it is....

The theory of aWaterfall Card is that you pull the tab (or ribbon or whatever you have chosen) and as the tab lengthens, the pictures flip over. You can have so much fun putting hidden messages or anything really. You are only limitied by your imagination. Here's wht happened when the tab on my card was pulled...

Master Thomas loved the card......as well as the Ben 10 card game he got (note his fave character on his shirt at the moment!!)

These cards, once you get all the pieces in order, are a heap of fun and as I said, the possibilities are endless. Why not give one a go??

Going Round In Circles (aka Light Bulbs and Brick Walls)

Again, this is NOT a reflection of my disposition...although SOME may argue the point!!

The title refers to my most recent effort for one of our young neighbours who turned 7. He is the most beautiful little boy who has a developmental disability. He gives you so much every time you see him. He loves everything bold and bright as well as being heavily into anything to do with animals.

Once again....I strapped on my thinking cap. I knew that I wanted to use my very neglected Wild About You set (which covered the animal quota), but the bold and bright.....I hit a brick wall.

So.....I went blurfing for inspiration and came across something that the delightful Christie Wallace said. Although the whole of the quote pertained to SU product, the part that stuck with me was "Sometimes when you lack a bit of inspiration you only need to look at the papers and colour combinations"........So I did. I rummaged through my ever increasing stash of papers and found a bright bold circular pattern and then the light bulbs started to go off....so thank you Christie!!

So now I had my paper, my stamp set and I managed to match most of the colours with inks that I had. All was going sweetly. The idea of concentric bright circles and the animals in the middle then.........BRICK WALL!!!! After having thought I had nearly every size of circle punch from 1/16"-2"...the only one I did NOT posses was a 1 3/4" circle...AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

So...another light bulb...my dear father gave me a primitive (but as it turned out exceptionally useful) circle cutter for my birthday last year that I had not used. It's like the old geometry compasses but it has a blade where the pencil would usually would have been. So then I measured out a 1/2 of a 1 3/4" circle and HUZZAH!! Blade did not quite go through the CS, but it was enough that I could cut it out.

Anyhow...this is the result...

As I did not do the best job of cutting out the large circles, I decided to distress them with the cutter kit. The "7" is from a Gel-a-tins set that I got sometime ago too, but just had not gotten out. I popped up all the circles on dimensionals...which you can (sort of) see here.

The best part of course was that Jayme LOVED his card and the fantastic smile I got was worth all the ups and downs of putting the card together.

Baby Cards #3 - Gender Neutral

These are a lot of fun, especially colour wise, cause it's a 50/50 split as to what you get. Also, some people choose NOT to find out what they are having, so these cards are for them!! Here are the neutral efforts..

And this is a CASE from SCS here. My piercing tool got a good workout with this one!!

                                                

I had also done a tag the same as for the boys and girls, but with a yellow flower...but DAH forgot to take a pic.

Baby Fun #1 - Girls

With the recent birth of my beautiful baby neice, naturally I would have a post on some baby cards about. The cards in the next couple of posts actually went to my work as we have a lot of prospective Grandmas and co-workers. It is a veratible baby boom coming. So here are the ones I did for the girls....

Finally a slightly different take, a tag that is Cuttlebugged with a plain tied behind so that it can be written on. I love the simplicity of this tag.
