Mother's Day - Part 1

Morning all.

For all of you in Australia, I hope you are enjoying the long weekend. It is cold, wet and miserable in Sydney, so the blanket on the couch is getting a good work out!!!

I thought I had better share with you my Mother's day project for my MIL....before the occasion slips into the ether. I am blessed to have one of the best MIL's in the world. She does so much for us, so I wanted something very special to say thanks. I decided to bolster her card supply with a wee set and box. The card that was for HER for Mother's day will be part 2.

For the cards inside the box, I was inspired by a couple of cards I saw here and here on SCS. I an really having a lot of fun with the Bordering on Romance SU set...as everyone needs to work on their colouring....right??

I decided to do 4 co-ordinated cards in Island Indigo, Poppy Parade, Concord Crush and Calypso Coral. Now I am sorry that the pics for these are a bit dark, but as I said, the weather for a while now in Sydney has been nothing sort of shocking. So here they are.....

Calypso Coral

Concord Crush

Island Indigo

and Poppy Parade

....and the set together.....

The box to case them was based on this tutorial that I found on Mary Fish's blog. The only change I made was in the width and made is 6 1/2" (from memory) as our cards and envelopes are slightly bigger.

I stamped the outlined water coloured image all over the WW CS before I stamped the sentiment.

Now there are a LOT of elements here and I will endeavour to list them all, but also please feel free to ask any questions you have with regards to the project.

Stay tuned for Part 2 in a couple of day's time...the card...which is SOOOOOOOOO not my usual style!!!

Thanks for popping by.

Anyone for Dove??

Ever had one of those moments where you think you have an idea sussed out and under control.....only to go looking for it and totally distress yourself out because you can't recall where the heck you filed it on your laptop? You Google and search your laptop high and low all for nought?? This is how this whole project started out for me. I put the call out to my crafty friends on FB and the divine Miss Debbie P as well as Kerri Donsky via e mail aided me beautifully and guided me in the right direction. Using the instructions Kerri gave me and this tute here my project idea had life again.

The seeds of the idea started with this card that found on SCS, but DAH when I did it I omitted the background layer of DSP. I actually made this card at Craft Camp this year, but I do not think I posted it...DAH again!! This is my card......

Co-ordinated with this, I made a wee box that held 18 Dove chocolates...and this is the result....

And of course the set together.......

The beauty of the chocolate box is that when the inside is consumed, the divider can be removed and it can be used as a trinket box. needless to say, my friend who received it was sooooooo pleased, so therefore....mission accomplished.

Thanks for dropping by. I have a couple more co-ordinated gifts to share with you very soon.

Stuff Used:
CS: (SU) Always Artichoke, Rose Red, Springtime Vintage DSP
Ink: (SU) Rose Red
Stamps: (SU) Wonderful Favourites
Dies: (SU) Little Leaf, Beautiful Wings Embosslit and Nestabilities Labels One and Eight
Other Bits: Scrap Lace, 1/2 white Pearls fm stash, Dimensionals, SAMJ

For A Friend

It is never nice to loose someone close to you, let alone 2 loved ones in quick succession. Sadly, this happened to a blog friend of mine. I wanted to let her know that she was being thought of and send her something to (hopefully) bring a smile to her face. Going through my files, I found this card on SCS. It appealed to me on a couple of levels.

1. It used Elements of Style....one of my fave go to sets at present
2. It had a vintage feel to it which I am luvin' also
3. It gave me a chance to bust out Life Definitions....ironically a set that I purchased second hand from this girl
and
4. There was no Whisper White or Very Vanilla to deal with.

This is my take on the card.......

Now there was a LOT of sponging involved with this card....but well worth the effort. I also changed the top left corner with the definitions as seen here....

The rest of the card is pretty much to the original, except for the wee tag. I did not have the jewellery punch nor the wording to go inside it....so I improvised with the word window punch (which I made smaller by double punching) and the sentiment form Wonderful Favourites.

The small piece of lace is from Singapore and I wrapped a small pewter brad around the end to keep with the vintage feel. Seriously.....pink ribbon?? (hee hee hee)

Now I also had a fair idea that this young lady was partial to the odd coffee.....so this led me to part 2 of the project. I think most of you are familiar with the chocolate pulls, well this was my (much) smaller version with some sachets of flavoured coffee....

and here is the set together........

Thanks for enduring all the pics in this post, but I was so very happy with the way this project turned out.

Other Bits: Topaz Rhinestones fm stash, Lace fm Singapore, Mini Pewter brads, Chocolate Brown Ribbon fm stash.

A Celebration and a Great Friend

Good morning all. I hope you'll forgive me this little story today, but I feel it is important. On this day, 13 years ago, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Irony of all ironies....it is also.....

....amazing how the universe works........isn't it??? So, today I celebrate another year living with Type 1 diabetes and all the challenges it sets. I have also been given the opportunity of crossing the paths of some amazing and wonderful people.....and this leads me to the story I wish to share with you today.

As most of you know I am a keen netballer and have played with the same core group of girls for as many as 10 years. We have shared our lives through marriages, divorces, engagements and of course babies!! One of the gals - Trish- has 2 kids, Ryan and Renee. Renee comes to see us play occsionally and she has seen me do my BSL's (blood sugar levels) and disconnect myself from my insulin pump before I take the court. I have answered her questions as to why I do what I do and as far as I was aware, all was understood. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when Trish relayed a story to me at netball one night, about an arguement that she had overheard between the kids.

Ryan and Renee were watching TV and the ad came on with Rob Palmer (the chippie fm Better Homes and Gardens who also has Type 1 Diabetes) showing how this kind of BSL monitor was the one he used and recommended. Ryan was disbelieving with some of the claims that Rob Palmer was making. At this point Renee jumped up and said...."Well MY friend Lynda has Diabetes and SHE has to do that all the TIME". She continued to let Ryan know of the way I used my pump...the whole 9 yards. Whilst having a good giggle to ourselves, I was also very touched at Renee's fervour and passion at sticking up for me. I believe deeds like this should be rewarded. Hence, to say thank you to her, I made her this card......

I had not used my Jumbo Outline Alphabet yet, so it was a good opportunity to bust it out!!! Mind you, cutting around all those letters was a challenge at times. I used up a while heap of scrap DP I had accumulated.

I popped the butterflies up on dimensionals so it looked like they were flying.

I also did the same to the middle of the flower.

I received a beautiful e mail back from Trish letting me know how much Renee loved the card and how it has been put in a very special place in her room. It was something I was MORE than happy to do.

Thanks for indulging me this special story. As promised...the next couple will be sharing some Christmas cards I have done. Have a great day.
