Sail Away to 50!!

Good afternoon all.

My old boss (who I worked for in total for 10 years) recently celebrated an significant "0" birthday. Even though h is no longer my employer, he is still a good friend and I could not let the occasion go by without a card. one thing he is passionate about is sailing and the ocean, so it was an easy decision to make the card nautically themed.

Now I have forgotten where I found this card, and I cannot even credit the creator (sorry), but this is the card I took my inspiration from.....

This is the card I gave to my former boss.....

I kept the elements from the original of the boat, sentiment and self made DP, but I do not have a spritzer, so I stamped off my World Map BGS and used it instead. I also put the boat on dimensionals.

Now as you can see, I did not use a button (it was a masculine card after all) and I found a tutorial for the Sailor's Knot here. I got some twine from Michelle at The Stamp Spot and used it to do the knot. BTW.....SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy with the result!! He is a chap that does not like a lot of fuss, so I hid his age on the inside font of the card and made a wee flag from the Pennant Parade set and used some more twine to "hoist it up the mast"!!

Thanks for popping by. I know my posts have been a tad irregular at present, but rest assured I have a lot more to share.....in between life in general!!

An Element of Sympathy

Being a nurse in a busy practice, sadly patients passing is an occurrence that happens all too often. The Practice Manager asked me to make some sympathy cards so that we could pass them on to the families that were affected.

With this in mind, I was inspired to make these cards that I found on You Tube here. These were my two masculine toned sympathy cards.....

I love the elegance and simplicity of these cards. Needless to say, I think they can be altered to fit a number of occasions.

Just a quick one today. Thanks for popping by.

CS: (SU) Whisper White, Very Vanilla
Ink: (SU) Early Espresso and VersaColour Black

Farewell Ms Brooks

It is always sad to lose a teacher htat has been a stalwart of a school for so very long. Sadly, my son's teacher retired recently. She has endured taught Dylan for 2 years (yr 2 and this year...year 5), so I thought her parting gift should be all that she has meant to us as a fmily and as an educator. Once again, everything was co-ordinated and it sought of grew and took on a life of it own. This is what she received...

It consisted of a diary, a candle, a desk compendium and a card. (Be warned...lots of pics following....)

The diary....

The Candle....

The desk compendium, complete with calendar, monogramed paper and butterflies....

The desk set is the same as the one Debbie P made here.

And last but not least the card....

I am so very happy with the way this set worked out. As you can see, there are MANY elements to this set, so I will put the main ones in the "stuff used" at the end.

Father's Day Fun

Hi and Happy Father's day to all out there.

I am lucky enough in my life to have "3 Father's" - my Dad, my FIL and of course, my DH is father to my kids. No as usual...I was late on starting out with the idea for the cards and then flicked through a folder I have on "Life Definitions". I found this and the cogs started turning.

After some procrastinations and ruminations, this is what I came up with...

As you can see I put a couple of my own touches on it, that being stamping "dad" underneath the "gratitude" and of course adding the sentiment. Here's what the 'dad' looked like...

and of course the obligatory close up of the card.....

My Miss 7 also made a cracker of a card for her dad, and I will share a picture of that later on with you. I sincerely hope all the Father's/Dad's and Blokes in general out there have a fantastic day. Thanks for dropping by.

For A Friend

It is never nice to loose someone close to you, let alone 2 loved ones in quick succession. Sadly, this happened to a blog friend of mine. I wanted to let her know that she was being thought of and send her something to (hopefully) bring a smile to her face. Going through my files, I found this card on SCS. It appealed to me on a couple of levels.

1. It used Elements of Style....one of my fave go to sets at present
2. It had a vintage feel to it which I am luvin' also
3. It gave me a chance to bust out Life Definitions....ironically a set that I purchased second hand from this girl
and
4. There was no Whisper White or Very Vanilla to deal with.

This is my take on the card.......

Now there was a LOT of sponging involved with this card....but well worth the effort. I also changed the top left corner with the definitions as seen here....

The rest of the card is pretty much to the original, except for the wee tag. I did not have the jewellery punch nor the wording to go inside it....so I improvised with the word window punch (which I made smaller by double punching) and the sentiment form Wonderful Favourites.

The small piece of lace is from Singapore and I wrapped a small pewter brad around the end to keep with the vintage feel. Seriously.....pink ribbon?? (hee hee hee)

Now I also had a fair idea that this young lady was partial to the odd coffee.....so this led me to part 2 of the project. I think most of you are familiar with the chocolate pulls, well this was my (much) smaller version with some sachets of flavoured coffee....

and here is the set together........

Thanks for enduring all the pics in this post, but I was so very happy with the way this project turned out.

A CASE of Digital Proportions

Hey all!

Can you keep a secret??? I have been a little bad. I have be going slowly NUTS with this darn neck thing. I have sketched soooooooo many cards that you will be over-run with posts once I get the all clear and get them made!!! I have read Stamping and Crafting Mags, (finally) sorted all my SU stuff into the new colour groups, gone through my stamps and decided which ones I wanna part with and repackaged my punches. On the upside I am all organised and ready to go when the green light flashes!!

But...I was bad....I HAD TO STAMP!!! I kept things relatively CAS (clean and simple) so as to not be in a bad position for too long. I also made a CASE of a card I saw on SCS here. Apparently in the US they have a digital studio thing that means that you can print elements of a set out as you wish. At least I think that's the idea. Anyhow, I made 2 versions with just a minor tweak of the embellishments.

As you can see one one card I have the 1/2 pearls midway & on the other at the bottom. I have also moved the position of the bow according to balance. I am very happy with the results. It is also my first use of Elements of Style. This set is gunna be a long time fave I think. The hummingbird is stamped onto the card and then onto a wide oval punch and then positioned over the original on dimensionals. It was easy to line up with a SAMJ....to get perfect lines!! I thought the "Happy" from "Life Definitions is a nice sentiment on a birthday card.

I hope you like these cards as much as I do. I have another round of CAS cards to share later. thanks for dropping by.

Stuff used:
CS: (SU) Baja Breeze, Very Vanilla, Elegant Sioree DSP
Ink: (SU) Night of Navy
Stamps: (SU) Elements of Style, Life Definitions (ret)
Punches: (SU) Scallop Border and Wide Oval Punch
Other bits: Dimensionals, SAMJ, Mini Glue Dots, 1/2 Pearls and Navy Satin Ribbon fm stash

To let you know....

A couple of weeks back, my bestie had the anniversary of her beautiful mother's passing. Having lost my own mother some 17 years ago (age 46) we share the bond of losing these beautiful people to breast cancer. To let her know that she was being thought of and that the memories of those close to us should be held close to our hearts, I sort inspiration from this card here on SCS. This is what I came up with....

I did not wish for this card to be morbid or sad, so I used "cherish" from the Warm Words Set.

To get the background, I sponged the ink onto the stamp which gives a beautiful, soft effect, a perfect reflection of my beatie's Mums nature and manner.

To finish it off I did something I have not yet done on any card I have made, which is stamped on the inside of it. I thought it was appropriate.

Best thing of all is that when she received it, it made her smile. For me, that is the biggest reward of all.

Stuff used:
CS: (SU) Very Vanilla, Riding Hood Red
Ink: (SU) Riding Hood Red, Handsome Hunter
Stamps: (SU) A Rose Is A Rose, En Francais BGS, Warm Words, Life Definitions
Other Bits: SU Dimensionals
