A Rose By Any other Name

Morning all.

Do you ever have those days when possibly the confidence you have is slightly more than what you really should have??? i think I suffered an episode similar to this not so long ago. I had the very bright idea (not) to try and CASE a card by the uber talented Teneale Williams. I had some 'gorjus' rose based paper in my stash with this particular card in mind....all I had to do was keep the card layout as is and the substitute different colours. This is the card that I had in mind. I was happy so far.

I got all the elements guesstimated and cut out, and thought it would also be a good idea to make one the same as the original, so then when that went together OK....I could tackle the one in different colours. Here is my version of Teneale's original.

I basically had it all the same with the exception of the white doodle dots around the Choc Chip frame. No matter how I measured and double checked...I was not satisfied with the result. I therefore went to a "ticket punch" cornering on the white mat with pearls.

There are alot of dimensionals on this card....perhaps one of the "highest" cards I have done but I think it looks OK IRL. I also placed a dimensional under the sentiment banner to give it a little lift and support.

I do have the other version in pieces...and in 2 versions of co-ordinating colours, but that will wait for another day.

Thanks for dropping by...hope to see you again soon.

A Rose By Any Other Name

Hi there all.

Please forgive my tardiness over these past 10 days. I have so much going on at the moment it is hard to keep up. Perhaps the best thing that has happened is that I have become and Aunty again, last Friday (13th) to little Pippa Lee Burke....a beautiful baby girl to my SIL Neridah and hubby Gary. She is the cherished reward at the end of a rollercoaster journey. We visited her on Saturday, but sadly my camera was not playing nice and the pics I have are not that FAB, but here she is.....

So I think that it is fitting that I (finally) post my Mother's Day card. My MIL has a beautiful garden and I really wanted to do something special. both she and Poppy do so much for us....it was the least I could do. I had not done a Tri Shutter card for some time and I really loved playing with "A Rose is a Rose" set again. This is what I came up with........

I teamed it up with the Bella Rose (now retired....sniff) DSP and got the Nesties out again. I mounted the rosebuds on dimensionals as they framed the "Mum". It is also a little hard to see, but I stamped off a rose and leaves that you can JUST see under the Mum. (I think the Pink Pirouette Rose got lost in the glare of the sun!!)

These cards have such a WOW factor when opened.....and this is my attempt at WOW....

This card accompanied a rose bush in the same colours as the card.....as hubby after much prompting STILL forgot to get anything!!! At least it looked as if some thought went into it (hope she doesn't read my blog...LOL). Needless to say our wedding anniversary (which also fell on Mother's day was forgotten).

My children woke me with the blinding turning on of the bedroom light...v v eager to share their purchases from the school's Mother's Day Stall. Here is what I received.....

Miss 6 gave me the VERY blingy earings and 10 min Makeover Body Shop voucher and Mast 10 gave me a new coffee mug for work, complete with Tim Tams and a Vegemite sachet....for that Brekky in bed!! Now for all those SU folk out there....am I crazy in thinking that the pattern on the mug closely resembles the large flower from Fabulous Flowers (08-09 I B&C...pg 79 for those playing at home)?????

Thanks for popping by and I will endeavour to try and post a little more regularly.....sanity pending.

Stuff Used:
CS: (SU) Choc Chip, Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss (Ret), Whisper White, Bella Rose DSP (also ret)
Ink: (SU) Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss
Stamps: (SU) A Rose Is A Rose, Lovely Letters Alphabet, Teeny Tiny Sentiments (in the middle not shown)
Other bits: Nestabilities Deckle Rectangles, Dimensionals

I Co-Ordinated - #1

You may recall this post a little while back. I stamped on DP (designer paper) for the first time and I loved the way it looked!! Well....I decided to set myself another couple of challenges...and one involving PINK!! I found this card on SCS. I thought of the DP's that I had and the colours that I could use.....here's what I came up with....

Now I have never made a set of co-ordinated cards before....let alone the shock and awe of using PINK, but I am happy with the way that they turned out. I uesd the Pink Pirouette side of the Bella Rose DSP (sadly now retired...##sniff##) and Riding Hood Red ink. Here are the cards individually...

I loved the way the ink looked on the different DP's

Now the last wee trick I wish to share with you is with regards to the sentiment. Now I have a LOT of punches, but sadly I can not aquire them all (dare to dream). Now I have RACKED my brain to try and recall where this original idea came from and for the life of me I cannot find it....so if it is you...thanks you so v v much!! The RHR punch resembles the current SU Modern Label Punch, but it is not.....I punched the Scallop Oval Punch and cut it down to resemble it....HOW CLEVER!!!! So thanks who ever you are!! I think it looks FAB!!

Thanks for enduring (another) long post. I have another co-ordinated set that I'll share with you soon.

Stuff Used:
CS: (SU) Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red, Bella Rose DSP (now retired)
Ink: (SU) Riding Hood Red
Stamps: (SU) inspired By Nature, Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Punches: (SU) Scallop Oval Punch, Word Window Punch
Other bits: 1/2 pink pearls fm Bizzy Becs

A Bevvy of Boxes - #4

The delightful Jenny Hayward recently had a post on a thing called a Boxy Bag. Now I LOVE making things to hold goodies....so I took up the challenge to make one and see what I could come up with.

Miss 6's 1st class teacher (who was also the teacher of Master of Cool (now 10)in the same grade) had a birthday...in September!!!!!! She is a delightful lady and so nurturing to the children, so I wanted to do something unique for her. A Boxy Bag was a good place to start. I also recently acquired "A rose is a Rose" set, which is sadly now retired. I found this card on SCS and I used it as a starting point. Now the large rose from this set is too big for the boxy bag...and I had the brainwave of miniturising the card on the bag to co-ordinate it. This is the gift set....

The card.....

Up close and up on dimensionals

And the sentiment....

The Boxy Bag front......and back......

 And side.......

It held 2 Robert Timms Coffee Bags and 4 Twinnings Herbal Tea Bags (for when you need to come down off the caffeine high....LOL!!) It was all finished off with a small box of Lindt Chocolates and I stamped a white gift bag with the rose and leaf to tie everything together.

I am liking this co-ordination thingy a lot and will be back later with another couple of co-ordinated things I have done. Thanks for enduring this post till the end.

Another ATC

Just a quick one today. This was the most recent attempt at an ATC that I have had. It was based arond the theme of nature. It had to have a 3D embellishment, a nature/foilage stamp, some ribbon and some tissue paper. All of these elements came to this......

I am having fun with these. Why don't you try an ATC??

RAK - #1

For those of you who don't know, and RAK is a Random Act of Kindness. In Swap Sisters, there are a couple of the most AMAZING women who do the most GENEROUS things out of their own pockets, so we can share in the wonderful world that is papercraft. Sue Denning is one of these women. She is the founder and the driving force behing Swap Sisters and without her, things indeed would be very different.

With this in mind, I decided to pop an RAK in the post to her to say THANK YOU for all that she does. She let it slip in the chatroom one night that she is always taking notes and writing down ideas and sketching ideas for 3D projects. Recently on SCS they had a tutorial for a Matchbox Post It Folder and I combined this with a mini journal and 3 x 3 note tag. This was really the first co-ordinated gift I had done and I was more than happy with the result.

The mini journal....

The matchbook post it front and back.......

and the side....

Finally the note card....

It worked a treat and Sue was very surprised. RAK's make people smile (and hopefully) make their day a bit better.

Stuff Used:
CS: (SU) Riding Hood Red, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Bella Rose DSP
Ink: (SU) Riding Hood Red, Chocolate Chip, Old Olive (stamp and write marker), Versamark
Stamps: (SU) Heartfelt, Vintage Labels.
Oddments: Brown Grosgrain Ribbon fm stash, Mini Journal.

Swap Sisters.....Challenge #5

Well....most of you aware of my relationship with PINK. This week at Swap Sisters....they evoked a Dr Phil-like challenge and obviously wanted it and I to "just get aloooowwwwwnnnngggg" (insert Dr Phil-like drawl!!) This is what was set.....

For those of you with diminished eyesight....it's Chocolate Chip, Regal Rose, Pink Pirouette and Whisper White. Not 1......but 2 PINKS!!!!!!! Oh the agonal pain and torture. However, after a minor breakdown and a wee lay down....I decided that I COULD do this and hit the challenge head on. At first I thought I cld do 4 cards and really show pink who is boss, but then I decided 2 would be better...LOL!! I also set myself the challenge of reaching into my stamps and using the first set that I grabbed....and the winner was...Eastern Blooms - probably because it was on top and the set I last used huh?? I also his SCS for a bit of inspiration. I found this as a starting point and came up with this....

I scored the border like the original. I like the effect.

The 2nd card I found whilst blurfing and must have had it for such a long time that I can't even locate the original post!! I Googled and also tried to find the web link superimposed over the card to no avail, so all I can say is thanks to the creator of this card....

Helping me to create this...

I do not have any Regal Rose or Pink Pirouette markers....so I samped the imaga each time in the colour and cut around the flower and stuck it on. I think it gives it a slight 3D effect. The Regal Rose DSP also adds textural interest.

Hope you like these challenge efforts. I have EVERYTING crossed that the pink run now has a rest...hee hee hee.

Stuff Used:
CS: (SU) Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, Pink Pirouette, Regal Rose DSP (fm Patterns Pack II), Bella Rose DSP
Ink: (SU) Regal Rose, Pink Pirouette, Chocolate Chip
Other bits: Dimensionals (SU), scoring tool.
