Going Outside the Box a Little

Hi all.

Once again I find myself hanging my head in same at my total SLACKNESS in posting....seriously....where did 2 darn weeks go??? Believe me when I say it is not due of a lack of things to share!!

Today's creation has a slight twist on it and came about as I was VERY time poor. I had a request to do a card for a 10yo birthday party and that there was an iTune gift card to go with it. Immediately I thought "cool....do one of the Patty Stamps ones" like here. I was then going to do a larger version for the actual card to write in. Sadly this was also around the time of my 1st workshop and also a lot of other commitments. I ran very short of time to complete the 2 projects. The young birthday girl that was to received the card, her fave colours were red, black and purple, so this was my starting point.

So then I thought to myself why not just make the smaller gift card holder BIGGER? So Google got a flogging and no joy. So then I thought "ok....surely it can't be THAT hard to work out." I got to work...and this was the result.....

The fun part was getting the slot right in the very middle of the card. In the linked tute Patty uses the Word Window punch, but I wanted to step it up a little. I used one of the labels Framelit dies to assist in getting a very pretty shape. This was the result.....

This is what it looked like when the card was "normal". I thought it looked really PURDY.

I guess I should have started out by saying that this card is a standard A5 card (10.5cm x 14.8cm - or 1/2 and A4 sheet of CS.) The red base however was constructed from a 30 x 30cm sheet of CS to get all the folds etc.

Thanks for popping by and I hope you like this bigger version of the smaller traditional one. I think I may create some more of these as they are very handy to have and it really is an all in one!!

Magic Puff

Morning all.

Today I have another Punch Art Project for you. I got the tutorial from the amazing Tami White here. There is also a down loadable pdf which lists all the punch bits that you will need.

This card was for a demo friend's little boy. I had a lot of fun doing it. Before I discovered stamping, I was a dedicated punch art freak. I love the fact that I can combine the two now. Here is my version of Tami's card...

The colour combo took me out of my comfort zone (ie using Peach Parfait!!) but other than that it was pretty much as to Tami's tute. The only minor difference is that I sponged the cloudy background to the card and I also embossed the "horns" using the Cuttlebug "Spiderweb" embossing folder. Gave some great texture.

Here are the clouds a tad closer up, part of the horns and the pretty, sparkly 4......

The "Happy Birthday" was achieved by partially colouring in a stamp with a black SWM (Stamp and Write Marker) and presto.......

Thanks for popping by. Soooooooooo much more to come with more blingy numbers, not so happy birds and a little bit of girly stuff to even it all up. I really enjoy reading your comments.

Stuff uesd:

Ink: (SU) SWM in Basic Black, Bashful Blue
Stamps: (SU) Birthday Wish (ret)
Punches: As per Tami's Tutorial
Other Bits: Dimensionals, SU Square Lattice EF, Orange Glitter CS fm Alice's, Cuttlebug Spiderweb Embossing Folder

Hoot of a Card!!!

Morning all and welcome to Spring!!!! (insert wee happy dance and beaming grin!!)

Before I share today's card with you I have to send out a MASSIVE thank you to Katie Ridden for the inspiration. Since birth of bubba #2....most of her creative works are shared on Facebook here. We met a couple of years back on a creative forum...and our daft senses of humour were a PERFECT match.

Katie's creations are brilliant, and with 2 younguns under 5...she has her finger on the pulse of all things kiddy related. i made a particular mental note when one day she sat down and created these.....

Now for those not all knowing in the "real young-uns" area....the above are punch art creations of Hootabelle and Hoot the Owl. Hoot has his own programme on the ABC here in Australia (Giggle and Hoot).

Now (again) one of the doctors at work, well his niece was turning 1 and she is MAD about all things Hoot....to the point where her party was totally Hoot themed!!! He asked if I could make her a special card. I immediately thought of Katie's effort. This is what I came up with.....

There was a lot of research into all things Hoot. He has a special set of drawers in his house and this is what I based the card around. Here are a couple of close ups of the card....

I tried to get the drawers as close to authentic as possible using EF's and some checkered DSP with a slight marker adjustment to make the squares bigger. I stamped the Weathered BGS in Versamark to add a bit of texture to all the brown space.

Under the "Happy Birthday" there is the "splat" from Extreme Elements in very light pink. (sorry about the dodgy pic). The card is known as a Side Step card. There are many tutorials around, but I used this one here by Jackie Topa.

When I gave it to the doctor in question, I was MOST stunned and shocked by his reaction. I am not really THAT tech savvy (he is about a decade younger than myself and STREAKS ahead!) He snapped a pic on his iPhone, sent it to his fiancee, she sent a text back and he came in whilst I was with a patient with HER reaction!! Thankfully the patient was a regular and has a brilliant sense of humour.

Now I have used a lot of stamp sets and punches here. I will try to list them all, but if you have any questions, please ask and I will get back to you. Thanks for popping by and making to the end of this post.

Crafter's Retreat #7

Nearly there...I promise....

I did so many male cards whilst away....this is another. I have been really lucky with getting inspiration from DP of late and these cards are no exception. I had an idea bouncing around and it basically came to be...which is a nice change. I used Just Jawing...which I have played with a bit of late...it's great for those tween age guys and gals. These are the cards........

When I initially stamped and mounted the skull...on the darker background the Whisper White looked VERY stark. So the cogs started clunking..... I ended up getting out my Kaiser Clear Grunge stamp, borrowed one of the gals Brocade Blue inks, stamped off the ink and then onto the skull. It looked so cool!!

Took all the starkness away...like magic....and like it's name....grunged it up really well.

Thanks for popping by again. I sincerely hope that you are enjoying my camp made creations.
