Farewell Friend

Morning kind readers and commenters.....

Don't you hate it when a workmate whom you have formed a great working relationship leaves???? I know I do. Sadly we lost our wonderful pathology collector a couple of weeks back. I wanted to give her something small but memorable as a parting gift. I had an appropriate card in my stash, and I was also aware of the fact she was an avid reader...so bookmark was the logical answer!! Here is what I gave to her...

This is a slight change up on the butterfly bookmarks I have done recently in that the top butterfly co-ordinates with the card.

I think I made her cry a bit, which was not my intention, but I knew it hit the spot. Hmmmmmm....I am starting to get the hang of this whole co-ordination thing I think!!

Just a quick one today, lots to (try) and get done. Hope you get creative and a little inky today!!

Stuff used:
CS: (SU) Very Vanilla, Rich Razzleberry
Ink: (SU) Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive, Orchid Opulence (ret)
Stamps: (SU) vintage Vogue, Great Friend (retiring at the end of this month I think!!)
Other Stuff: SU Very Vanilla Grosgrain 5/8" ribbon, 1/2 Pearls fm stash, Dimensionals.

In Colour Inspiration....

Hey all!

Madeline at Ink4U changed things up for the next couple of her challenges and gave us a sketch challenge this time. This is what we were greeted with....

Now one thing I have learnt from challenges....is that that you can flip the sketch and go from there, so I took this one. I just hit one small snag...I got the sentiment and cirle bit mixed up. Anyhow, this was my take on this sketch.....

I apologise for all the brightness and glare, but it has been so hot here and hard to get a pic in decent light without getting fried in the process...LOL!!

I used all the new In Colours on this card. Peach Parfait still remained in its wrapper and CS untouched, so I made this the base. The rest just fell into place from there. The butterfly's wings are all mounted on dimensionals.

Thanks for dropping by.

Stuff Used:
CS: (SU) Peach Parfait, Concord Crush, Pear Pizzaz, Poppy Parade, Blushing Bride, Whisper White
Ink: (SU) Peach Parfait, Concord Crush, Pear Pizzaz, Poppy Parade, Blushing Bride
Stamps: (SU) Great Friend, Vintage Vogue, Warm Words
Other Bits: Dimensionals

Starting off on the Right foot....

In my last post I made a couple of creative promises...so I am upholding one of them here...and that's to give pink a better go than it has previously had on this blog. I went to my (ever increasing) stash of stamps and pulled out Great Friend that I received from Tanya Kitto Christmas 2009. I then went to my case file and found this and this (if it is yours, thanks for the inspiration) as I thought I found it on SCS and now I cannot.

These are my two efforts...

I got to bust out my Square Lattice Embossing folder...and I LOVE IT!!!

And the So Saffron cards are a further testament to my paranoia about not having 2 cards the same!! Opps...just realised I forgot to pop the pearls on.....DOH!!

Apologies for the inconsistent colour as it has been very VERY bright (and hot) her these past few days. Glare is a real challenfe for my son's small pocket digital camera.

Hope your new year is fun and fabulous!!

Stuff used:
CS: (SU) Black, Regal Rose, So Saffron, Whisper White, Tea Party DP

Fresh Cuts Quilt - Inkspirations Challenge #42

Yes people....stay in the upright position please.....I did a CHALLENGE!!!!!!

I have been a keen follower of Makeesha's Blog. for more than a couple of years now. I once use to comment quite often, but I now more marvel at the amazing talent that she is and those that enter her challenges. Challenge #42 was a colour challenge......

Firstly, these are all colours I have in my possession, so I was already thinking!! I went to sets, layouts etc, then slept on it for a night. About 3AM...it came to me (as most good things do....LOL)!!! I have DP in these colours too....and then the cogs started again......a quilt card!!! This was the result...

This is the first time I have attempted one of these cards and I must say I was surprised at how quickly it came together. The DP strips are cut at 1/2" x 4" (and you need 4 of them). The centre piece of Vanilla is 1 1/2" square. The piece that the quilt is secured to is 4" square. The total dimension of the card is 5"square. I was shown how to do this by Tia Routledge who was one of my Swap Sisters (which sadly is not running at present).

Because I needed 4 different types of DP...and I only had 3 that were true to the colours needed....I made the 4th one myself by stamping the vine from Fresh Cuts onto the VV card and them crossing back the other way, but stamping it off first to add a bit of interest. I then stamped off the border of the card in the colours and matted the quilt square onto it. Here's a close up of the self made DP and border.

Finally, the sentiment in the middle is from Great Friend and I did that with the markers. The leaves in the corners were again the vine and stamped off. I am so very happy with the result. Hope you like it too.

Thanks Keesh for setting a challenge to get the cogs turning. May have to try this challenge thing a bit more often....it's so much FUN!!!!

Stuff used:
Card: (SU) Very Vanilla, Bella Rose DP (ret) and Urban Garden DP (ret)
Ink: (SU) Ridinh Hood Red, Not Quite Navy, Kiwi Kiss, markers in NQN and RHR.
Stamps: (SU) Fresh Cuts, Great Friend
Other Bits: Stamp-a-ma-jig (a must on this card), Xyron adhesive

A Little Bit Country....

I have now (thankfully) come to the end of my mega run of female birthdays. Here is one card that has been bouncing around the brain for a bit...and also, because of a wee oops...the look was improved. I changed them ever so slightly with the sentiment, but apart from that they are identical.

I have used my Stamp and Write Markers for the flowers....and just after I had stamped the last flower...I splodged ink on the side of the CS!!!!!! Remedy...pull out some ribbon from the stash and add a little more interest. I loved it so much...I repeated it (minus the splodging) on the second card. I also thought I was quite clever matching up the gingham on the ovals!!!

Hope you like this little feel of country.

Stuff used:
CS: Textured red CS, (SU) Whisper White, B & W Gingham (fm the Paper Factory)
Ink: (SU) Stamp and Write Markers Real Red and Mellow Moss
Stamps: (SU) Garden Whimsy, Great Friend , Amy R Stamps "Birthday Wishes"
Punches: (SU) Large and Small Oval Punch
Other: Red and White stitched ribbon fm stash.

For a Friend

This continues the run of female birthdays I have. Debbie is a great gal who owns and manages the local Riot Art and Craft Shop....so I do spend a LOT of time in the shop. Deb is a great fan of nature, so this card was perfect to suit her likes.

I also got a beautiful bracelet for her and made an Oragami Box (similar to the ones used in Fantasy Boxes) and I did it in black, white and red.

I love the way the punch worked on the edge of the red card stock and the black satin ribbon just finished it off perfectly. It's so much fun when you can make your own packaging......and the person receiving it appreciates it just as much.

Stuff used
Card: (SU) Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss, Bella Rose DSP, Bright Red (non SU) and SU Basic Black for base of box.
Ink: (SU) Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss, Versamark
Stamp Set: (SU) Great Friend, Best Yet
Punches: (SU) Scallop Border Punch, Scallop Oval Punch, Large Oval Punch, EK Parisian Border Punch
Other: SU Dimensionals, Doodlebug Designs Paper - 1433 "White Devine" for lid of box, black sarin ribbon fm stash

Another Easel....

Yes....I did it again.....another easel card....and again with the Great Friend set. My friend from my Nursing University recently turned 40, so I thought that it warranted something special. We hardly see eachother much anymore, but we text eachother on those special life events. Here's Helen's card...

Now I also have a confession.....over the next couple of posts you'll notice this particular layout and colour combo a couple of times. You see I have a HEAP of female birthdays coming up and I have just tweaked the sentiment slightly for all of them. This however was the only easel card of the bunch. I think I am also getting use to using DSP as an accent and I love this Bella Rose. Makes colour choice soooooooo easy.

Stuff used:
Card: (SU) Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss, Bella Rose DSP
Ink: (SU) Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss, Versamark
Stamp Set: (SU) Great Friend, Best Yet
Punches: (SU) Scallop Border Punch, Scallop Oval Punch, Large Oval Punch
Other: SU Dimensionals, Gold number stickers fm stash

Shades of Grey

When my mojo gets a wee BLAH..(and whose wouldn't in the weird weather we have had in Sydney of late!!) I cruise SCS when looking for ideas or applications of bits I have aquired. I was blessed enough recently to win the ESAD Summer Mini blog Hop. As a result of that, I received amongst some other beautiful things fom Nicole Derendorf some SU DSP (Patters Pack II). It is 6 x 6 gorgeous papers in a range of colours. One of them being Basic Grey...a colour I am still very much getting use to.

Anyhow...long story short...I found this on SCS

....and I cam up with this.....

Given that the majority of angles in the card were square or rectangular (do you thing I over-thought that a bit too much??), I changed the scallop circle for that of a hand cut rectangle. I also have done one with an oval greeting, but it is sitting in bits at the mo....awaiting its assembly!! I love the fact it has a monotone feel (yes I am aware there are 3 tones used!!) and I also used RIBBON!!!! Woo hoo!! Thanks to Nicole for giving me some stuff that put me out of my comfort box and using a colour I'm not that familiar with.

Hope your mojo is on full thrusters and I'll catch you again soon.

Stuff used:
CS: (SU) Basic Grey, basic black, Whisper White, Basic Grey (Pretty Patterns II pack)
Ink: (SU) Basic Grey
Stamps: (SU) Great Friend
Bits: (SU) 1/4 " Black grosgrain ribbon, adhesive rhinestones fm stash, CP1 - 1/4 " circle (for the corner things) .

Easel Does it......

Many of you by now have probably seen these stunning things called Easel cards. They can be done any size you wish....as long as your base is twice the "face" of the card. The basics can be found here (for square ones) and here (for rectangular ones).
I was blessed enough to receive the wonderful "Great friend" SU stamp set fm my blog buddy Tanya (whose blog u can access on my blog roll). I thought I would combine my new stamp set, easel card and my MIL's b'day all in one. I got the inspiration from here and CASE'd the card. The result is as follows.

My MIL loved the card so much that she asked me to do another two!! I'll post them later.

Cardstock: Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red, Whisper White and Bella Rose DSP
Ink: Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss, Pink Pirouette.
Stamp Set: Great Friend, Sincere Salutations.
Accessories: Crimper, Rhinestones, Dimensionals, Lg Oval and Scallop Oval Punch
