Mother's Day - Part 2

Morning all.

Have you ever seen a card to CASE, the BEST one to suit the occasion...only to find that what you thought would be fairly straight forward, turns out to be the TOTAL opposite!!!!! Welcome to the drama that was my MIL's Mother's Day card - 2012!!!!

I saw this card on Judy May's blog and fell in love with it immediately. It was a slow downhill slide from there!! Problem #1 - dimension. I thought that the card was a standard 1/2 A4 sheet...no...turns out it was a square. I worked this out when I started playing with the framelits and working out that no matter which way I did it, the pink embossed piece would not fit correctly. Once that was sorted, there were multiple Mini issues....but my OCD kicked in and I got there in the end. Here is my version of Judy's card.......

The small details are what I love in this card. The tones are relatively mute, being Pink Pirouette, Crumb Cake and Whisper White. Then there is all the layering - the framelits, the coloured flowers and all the edged and embossed layers. Lastly, The different sized 1/2 pearls are the perfect finish.

Here is a picture of the card and the gift card box together......

Again, I apologise for the bad lighting in the photos. I hope you can get a sense of the beauty of the card.

Thanks for popping by again. Will be back soon with all my craft camp creations (yes that was nearly a month ago now) plus a whole lot more.

Marking a milestone...

Hi all,

So sorry for the infrequency of blogging, however, at work it has been a tad out of the ordinary. Both of our senior docs ended up in hospital and the other nurse had a nasty bout of ikky reign down upon her, so it has been all hands on deck to cover workloads and keep things afloat.

Once of my darling regular patients celebrated a milestone......91. In her words....every day you get past 90 is a gift...so the ones that come in a 365 day bundle are a PARTY!!! She is a fantastic lady and we share all kinds of stories and mischief when she comes in for her visits.

I had been waiting v v patiently for the Build-a-Blossom stamp set and punch to come out. This was as good an opportunity as any to see what I could do. I had seen this and loved the idea of the black CS. I ran with it and this is what I came up with.

Too much fun!!! Now as you all know I like to do a good bookmark too, and this lady LOVES her books. I was also patiently waiting for the Fun Flowers Bigz L die to be released so I could do similar bookmarks to Dawn Griffiths here. I do not have a Big Shot, but use a lot of the Sizzix dies in my Cuttlebug. I thought I had done enough research and found that I could use the die......WRONG!!!!!!

(skip the next paragraph if you wish to avoid the saga!!)

When using a plain Bigz Die...I just use 2 B plates....and thought this was going to be the same from what I had Googled/You Tubed/ Blog surfed etc. ALAS no!!! I was not to be outdone. I needed something slightly thicker, but still so that only 2 plates went thru the Cuttlebug. I went to Bunnings to get some rubber....as you do....and I must say, I received some v v ODD looks. Found the PERFECT rubber....needed 15cms of it....DOH...only sold in 50cm increments...not gunna happen. Next stop....flooring. I found some 12 x 12 thin (1mm) floor tiles. Three of these on top of each other should have worked a treat. Buoyed by perhaps false hope off I wnent home to try out my theory. WOO HOO.....worked a treat. Went thru no probs and crisp clean cuts....so my Sizzix Bigs L die goes thru my Cuttlebug.

The end result......

I used the colours in the card....and if  really wanna be artsy-fartsy about it....the green ribbon is kinda like the stem!!! Here's the gift and card together....

Having so much fun making that card I also made another for the stash with different embossing.

Thanks for dropping by. I WILL be posting some Christmas cards soon. It has rained nearly all week in Sydney, so made it hard to take pics of things.

They say flattery....

I hope the person I have CASE'd these cards from doesn't mind....

Given that I am still (and I am so sorry to keep you all on tenderhooks with what is going on...but I had a CT and the result should not be that far away!!) on light duties....the stamping that I have been undertaking has also been light....clean, simple....but hopefully elegant cards. One such card I found here on the blog of the delighful and gorgeous Jenny Hayward. I fell inlove with the simplicity of the card and the intricacy of the flower stamp. I did not however have the embossing folder that she had, so I got to thinking!! I raided my Cuttlebug Embossing folders and came up with the following versions. I did 2 of each colour, one in Very Vanilla and one in Whisper White. So here goes.....

Whisper White                                                                              Very Vanilla

Concord Crush

Cherry Cobbler

Elegant Eggplant

And lastly Rich Razzleberry

Now as you can see....the Razzleberry Whisper White card has a sentiment on it. No sooner had I finished these, my DH got word of one of the clerical staff of one of his clients losing the battle against Breast Cancer. So I offered the choice of the 8 as a sympathy card...and oddly enough we both chose the same one!! Now also being a bloke and not real good with words...I had to write the card....and he signed it.

The rest I have left the sentiments off....as I have another plan for them....but need to put it into motion.

Thanks for dropping by and as soon as I have a firm result on my CT...I'll let you know!! Fingers crossed.

Style Beautiful - #1

I was so very lucky for Christmas and received some things on my wishlist....that being Stamp Sets - Lovely As A Tree and Style Beautiful as well as the Scallop Trim Border and co-ordinating Corner Punch!!! I was wrapped!!

So....Boxing day and I am off to my cousin's place for a relo bash and BBQ. It was also a chance to catch up with my cousin and her kids from Adelaide. She turned 50 about the same time as I had my little whoopsy mid last year and as a result....whilst I had the present all ready to go, creativity was not with me, so sadly nothing made it over. This led to guilt and all sorts of angst.

So....with new rubbah....I got off my keester and decided to make an appropriate card (sadly not the one I had hoped to give) and I wanted to try another Vintage type of card. Style Beautiful came to mind and I used this card for inspiration. Again...sincere apologies for the less than flattering pic, but I had to take it in my cousin's bathroom as I had no time to do it before we left!! It is actually a little softer IRL. Anyhow...here's my take...

I am loving the filigrees and flourishes that this set has and I think as I experiment more with Vintage style, it may get a couple of more gurnseys.

I even got game and sponged lightly the top of the embossed image. I was lucky to have a very similar folder to the set in my Cuttlebug folders.

I decided to finish off the present and card with a duplicated "50" in the same paper on a tag to go on the bag that held the bracelet I had bought.

Thanks for popping by.
